It consists of a TOKONOMA, SHOIN and ENGAWA. The rooms overlook the garden and pond.
In winter, we replace with YUKIMI SHOJI (a sliding doors) which the lower half of the fixture is fitted with glass.
The name "YUKIMI SHOJI" comes from the fact that you can view the snow while sitting in the room without having to open the shoji screen.
A small sliding screen is fitted parallel to the glass, and when this can be opened and closed vertically it is called” NEKOMA SHOJI” which means cat-sized screen.
In summer, they are replaced with SUDO (blind doors). This is the general term for fittings with blinds fitted inside, and is also called "summer shoji," "MISUDO," "YOSHIDO," or "YOSHI SHOJI." They are made from natural materials such as reeds and bamboo sticks. Just like changing clothes, when June begins to arrive, we replace YUKIMI SHOJI with SUDO.
It is a fixture that blocks the strong summer sun, allows good ventilation, and is a product of Japanese wisdom and tradition.
